How do I use "Stamps by Design" stamps? Our stamps come on clear plastic index cards for organizing and storage. Just peel the stamp or stamps you wish to use from the plastic sheet and place on a clear acrylic, block mount. The stamp will naturally cling to the stamp mount (no glue is needed). It is best to use a mount that is proportionate to the size of the stamp so that even pressure is applied when stamping. Pat your stamp on an ink pad several times to gather ink on the stamp. Then press onto a surface where you would like to see your stamp design. After you are finished stamping, clean your stamp. You can put it back on the carrier, or leave it on the stamp block for later use. Back to Top
How do I care for "Stamps by Design" stamps and mounts?"Stamps by Design" stamps can be cleaned with soap and water, baby wipes, or rubbing alcohol if desired. All of the above cleaning methods can be used with the stamp mounts as well. For the longest life of S. B. D. stamps, remember to store them out of direct sunlight. Our UV protective album pages are an excellent storage solution. Over a period of time UV rays may discolor and/or damage the stamp material. Back to Top
What ink should I use?You may use a variety of different inks. The following list outlines several different types and some of their qualities and characteristics. Permanent Inks - We have found that permanent, fade resistant, waterproof (no smear) inks produce nice crisp images with the most consistent ink coverage. Pigment Inks - The results of pigment inks are pleasing. These inks are thicker, slower drying, and opaque. They will help your design to show up even on dark colored paper. Water-based ink - This type of ink is usually transparent. Interesting effects can be achieved by overlapping different colored stamped images. Here is another technique to try. After stamping onto a surface, water-based inks can be reworked with a paint brush and water to create watercolor or blending effects. These inks are less likely to produce a solid stamped image than pigment or permanent inks as they tend to mimic the texture of the stamp pad surface. Some inks may stain the surface of stamp material. This is normal and it may actually help during placement of your stamp on the work surface. This is why our stamps come with the stamp surface already colorized. Back to Top
